I am going to get a hitch for my 85 soon so I can pull a small trailer when I need to. I have seen the Curt ones:



However, I found a set of perfect euro bumpers in the boneyard today that can be had cheap that I want to get for my car but I don't think this hitch will work with the rear euro bumper.



Was there a euro hitch for the 126 chassis? I have seen the 123 euro hitch:




Was something like this made for the 126, and if so does anyone at least have a photo of it?

Just remember when pulling an trailer. Its not you have enough motor to pull that trailer make sure you have enough TRUCK to stop it.

I know, I'm talking about pulling a 4X8 expanded metal trailer with maybe 600 lbs on it, for a total of 900 lbs max. Thanks though.

Yes, they sold hitches like that for the W126, and many many other makes and models.

Now finding one for a model last sold 20 years ago is another issue.

Except that that hitch is going to be metric and the ball will not work with US size trailer hitch balls.

I have one like the curt hitch. It works well. Also, the euro bumpers just mean you have that much less protection against idiots who hit your car. The US bumpers are much more robust and vehicle-protecting.

European trailer hitch ball size:

50 millimetres (1.97 in) originally standard was BS AU 113b, now the the standard is BS ISO 1103:2007

I would bet that that setup will bolt to the subframe and will have at least one strut that goes forward and fastens near the rear axle to prevent torquing the sub frames.

I had a similar hitch which I had installed on my 61 220b when I was doing my traveling fellowship in Europe in '73.

I had about a 16' Travel trailer which I pulled around with it. The trailer had all mechanical surge brakes. There was a lever with a rachet on the hitch so you could pick up the hitch and move the trailer around then pull the brake lever to set it in place. Very very handy.

The trailer also had a large front and rear window which you could see through with the inside rear view mirror in the car.

Very rational design.

It was light and so well balanced I could roll with the traffic and corner at only slightly lowered speeds in city traffic. I remember well driving it with spirit across Paris in heavy traffic.

OK, I got my hitch. I ended up going with the Curt one in the first pic of the first post.

Now I need to wire in a flat four connector. How is everyone doing this?

Is a conversion box needed, and if so what kind?
