2007 R-300 AWD CDI questions

My friend is looking at this car. It has over 60,000 , just out of warranty. 2007 Mercedes-Benz R-Class R320 CDI Wagon 3.0L V6 Turbodiesel AWD 7-speed Automatic Features and Specs

I've worked on Her 2005 Dodge Sprinter with the CDI in it. It has the straight 5 cylinder that looks a heck of a lot like all the MB engines I've seen and i really like that 5 cylinder CDI. But this one is a V-6 .

Are those engines anygood? The fuel mileage is only like 28mpg . Not real impressive.

What about the AWD system? Is it easy enough to maintain?

How much does the computer system cost that you need to diagnose and configure this car?

Is this body plagued with problems?

She wants an all wheel drive diesel and this is all she could find in the US . Crazy isn't it? The main reason for the all wheel drive is to get down her big hill of a driveway. Its impossible in winter . But Middle TN doesn't snow that much .

I suggested maybe a cheaper 2009 VW Diesel with 6 speed manual if she doesn't need the room and an old 4wd jeep to park at the bottom of the hill.

Or a trip to europe to get the car she wants. Anyone know of anyone who imports european cars?

On an all wheel drive vehicle that weighs 5000 lbs empty? IMHO that is very impressive.
