New motor and trany

Got everything worked out on my engine/trany transplant... and i am very pleased. (1985)

I didn't know the engines were so nice when they ran like they should. the power is significantly better, very smooth, and much quieter than my old one. and now i have a great a/c system it just needs a charge.

this is my first 300D, i liked the car when i purchased it and was unaware that the engine was on its way out. the owner had the IP fully advanced and had blown the head gasket. there was no oil leaking at the time, he probably cleaned everything then let me take a look. then the knock occurred. and power slowly trickled off. the knock was cylinder slap on piston #5.

the trany is great but need to have an oil change. it flares for the 1st mile of driving but after that it's wonderful.

i said i would post picks on the transplant but i realized i'm not that kind of person. wasn't in my important list while doing the operation. my old transmission was good but this one seems to be slightly better/smoother.

i pretty much made out well on the project and am once again happy with the mercedes w123 line.

thanks for the help given in recent months.

congratulations.

for future reference and for others, I am under the suspicion that clever owners and used car dealers try to hide lower end knocking by advancing the timing.

not vice versa so much

I figured this out after I began learning these engines. The dirtbag I bought my first 2 w123s from was messing with the pump when I first met him. I ended buying the car after he disclosed the knock and said the engine was done... but would move on its own.... for now.

not vice versa so much
