Window washer pump/motor thing

Hi,

Good to be back hope everyones merc's are doing good!

Can anyone give me a location on the windscreen washer pump/motor (I haven't worked on it ever before it seems to have been broken even before I was born lol and didn't try to fix it until now) so I'm not too sure how the system works or connects up maybe it takes pressure from the engine like the central lock??? or it has an electronic pump??? I'm not too sure if anything is missing or just not connected so if anyone could tell me if it uses an electric pump or uses engine pressure somehow that would be great!!

Car: 1975 240D W115 RHD
Thanks
Jeremy

On later models the motor is located on the outside at the bottom of the washer reservoir housing.

Yup, It is on the side of the reservoir towards the battery. It is easiest to remove by taking the battery out ( remember to open the hood all the way to the service position) The pump has the one line and the elect connector and is t held in by a tapered rubber washer. Just give a slight turn being careful not to break the nipple for the hose and then pull up and out. A new pump is in the range of 20-30 dollars some a little less. I just replaced mine and I believe I paid $21.00 ? Mine broke because the shop that installed the ( wrong ) battery did not fully open the hood to the service position and tried to get the battery into place sideways and broke the nipple on the pump and the the washer fluid pick up on the bottom of the pump. If your leaked like mine you might find a rusty battery tray as well as the are beneath the tray. It is a good time to clean it up. There are some good threads here with advice on that.

After further review...

Your car has a different set up. Check the pic, in the lower right corner is the pump item #1 or #2, depending on the serial number, but they do the same thing.

Looks like there can be a leaking line issue, inspect all the associated lines, perhaps a bad connection somewhere.

BTW, if you would, put your car in your sig.

Good catch Bob. I was looking at a couple of 300SD threads and neglected to note his car type.

Okay, item #6 is a valve, there is no 8 in the diagram, sorry about the fuzziness.

The only items not on your car are, #13, #21 and #25. You should have everything else, according to the epc.

You'll have to follow the lines to find the pump.
