Freon?

What type of freon was loaded in a 1986 300 SDL from the factory,was it R12 or R134?

There should be a label in the engine compartment that states what was installed and the amount.

In 1986 everything from the factory was R12. R134a was first in cars sometime in the early 1990s.

^ Yeah and the different types have different Schrader valves too, so a technician can tell you if it was ever replaced with R134.

R-134a is a refrigerant but it isn't Freon. R-12 made by duPont is sold as Freon.
