rosenfe 09-25-2010 06:14 PM

if they are w123 wraparound kind you need the accompanying euro side trim--behind the front bumper ends and the bolt on brkts that go with them
Sorry I didn't see the sd--They are the same US and euro arent they on the 116?

IIRC the bumpers are interchangeable with existing hardware but the bumper shock openings on the body will be visible around the smaller Euro bumpers. The corner trim pieces are the same or close enough, those bits still on the red car in the picture.

That euro car is missing its bumpers. There should be another bumper below the upper chrome strip, just like the US car. They're just much thinner.

Agree. Those are just the bumperettes for the head and tail lights.

The Euro bumpers on W116 look like this

FYI: the US W116 had Euro style bumpers only for the 1973 model year. From 1974 onward, they had the mandated 5 mph park bench bumpers

hmmm the 74 116 450SDL seems to have euro bumpers in the pullapart I went to saturday... I will have to get a pic of it tomorrow...

I think that to install Euro bumpers on a W116 you need to cut away the "mounting bracket" that is welded to the body up front. For the rear, you need to drill a hole in between the 4 mounting holes on each side, or something. It's a bit tricky, I hear!

Euro car (Hi res so you can get a good idea)

i checked with good mbz yard and they said they just bolt right on

Squiggle Dog 09-29-2010 11:28 PM

Everyone I know who has done the bumper swap said they had to remove sections of metal and drill new mounting holes. I know for a fact they won't bolt in directly.
