1984 Mercedes Benz 300SD TD

I have a problem when putting key in the ignition and open the swicth to start engine It does not give a light in the dash board or sound that will let me know that the diesel got hot I suupose or some in that efect anyways that I can go ahead and start the car -- I hope that you will understand the problem as I might not explain it correctly. Thanks much!

Does the engine start like the glow system is working? If so, you just need a new bulb in the gauge cluster. If not, let's investigate...

There should be a box about 2" by 4" by 4" behind the left headlight. The box has a plastic cap covering two electrical connectors, a thick wire and a strip fuse held by screws. Ensure the strip fuse is intact. Remove it and put it back to be absolutely sure. Then check there is +12V at the thick wire.

Let's see what what you discover to this point.

The pics are of the US version.

Open the box, the top just pops off, see the larger of the two plugs?

That is the glow plugs plug. Unplug it and using an ohm meter, measure the resistance on each plug, they're marked.

Positive (red lead) to each socket and the negative (black lead) to any ground.

SORRY FOR THE EXTREMELY REPLY! I LEFT THE CAR WITH A FRIEND OF MINE FRIEND OVER THE WEEKEND (HIS 87 YRS YOUNGER AND HE LOOKS UNVELIABLE FOR HIS AGE!)
