Pleasant Surprise @ NJ DMV Today...

I stopped to get the '83 300D inspected today, and the attendant informed me that this is a diesel and needs not be inspected. Geeze, What about the sticker which expires 9/30 ? ? Oh, just peel that off.
NJ has excluded diesel passenger cars 1996 and later years from state inspection.
I did get a copy of that law issued to the DMV, and into the glove compartment. Wahoo.

If this has been posted previously, sorry been away with family prob's.

Same for diesel Motorhomes of same age limits.

Gary

Sweet. We're not required to get emissions tested in our county like gassers are.

So the standard safety inspection is only $14.50/yr.

The no inspection thing is pretty cool...I was made aware of that when I bought the 76 300D which ended up being resold to the seller...long story...

I was very excited about the $44 historic registration that's a one-time fee and only needs to be renewed every three years...

Where in SJ cessna? We might be neighbors...

Whaaaa? When did that go into effect? I always thought that NJ inspection laws were some of the most stringent in the area, diesel or not. It doesn't seem to make sense to exclude just diesel passenger cars from a full inspection--emissions I could see but inspection no.

I'm glad that Illinois doesn't have ANY inspections on passenger vehicle. I got Antique plates for my 240D...cost me $30 and doesn't expire until 2014!!!

We don't have to have emission testing here in Austin Tx and it's great. We just need to pass a safety test and your good to go.

This isn't news.

Never have had emissions testing for diesels in Texas.

It pays/saves to be 100% diesel in the family - AS I am.

NJ has never had emissions testing for diesels since I got my first w123 in 2002. It was always just a safety test.

I had heard that they were going to limit or remove the safety testing in the name of cost. Are you implying that this has been completed, so an older diesel does NEITHER emissions or safety anymore? And you don't get a windshield sticker as a result?

No inspections period in FL. There was a study done showing no difference in accident rates where inspections are required compared to where they are not. You are responsible for having everything working (lights etc).

This is true, and the way it should be. We shouldn't need a gov't program to nanny us about this subject. Unfortunately, it is what it is.

Illegals are a major issue as they will not be inspected or care... But what about the idiots with nothing to loose who just don't care? Police stops may or may not catch it... Statistics can be adjusted to state whatever the funding organization wants them to... I still dont want to be caught in the unlucck fraction of a percent...
