Roadside Question on SLS fluid!
I'm out on the road in a 83 300TD that has a leaky SLS valve. We are still a ways from home and will run out of fluid before we get back. Would it be a bad idea to use hydraulic fluid for the last 1000 miles of the trip. What weight oil would be comparable?

Yes, use whatever you can find and flush it when y ou get home. I've used power steering fluid in mine in similar circumstances.
|
If your near an airport Shell "Aero Fluid 4" is reported to be a good substitute.
|
Or look for the nearest dealer you can buy the fluid from.

I heard some tractor hydraulic oil works well, but have yet to search for this... the high side of the SLS leaks in my 560 some place and would prefer not to spend $20 on a liter trying to find the source.

Mineral oil or baby oil is supposed to work fine as well.
You never put in that o-ring kit huh?:D |
I did but I must have done something wrong because it still leaks.
Thanks for the tips guys. |
