Sticking Vacuum Shutoff Valve
Anyone experience an intermittent sticking of the valve which routes vacuum to the shut-down module? I have been having some occasional slow starts . Tonight is was no start. After half a dozen long cranks, I removed the vacuum line at the shutdown actuator and the engine started immediately. Subsequent investigation with a vacuum tester indicated that both the actuator and valve were functioning normally. The valve held vacuum (supply side) in the run position and vented when moved to the off position (actuator end of line disconnected.)
The only thing that makes sense is that the vacuum valve is sticking open some of the time. I am tempted to send a couple drops of Kroil through the valve. '82 300D. Last edited by tangofox007; 09-29-2010 at 09:39 AM. |

You talk about a solenoid. Doesn't your IP have a vaccum actuator for engine shutoff? Are you talking about a 140 or 210 Diesel rather than the 82 300D in your sig line?
I don't follow the results of your investigation. In off position, the key switch should allow vacuum from the supply port to continue to the shutoff actuator. In the run position, the key switch should block vacuum from the supply port and vent the port to the shutoff actuator. Sixto 87 300D |
