Rear Brake Hose Price?
 

Hello, Today I paid $40.56 per brake hose for the 85 300TD. I bought 2 of them which totaled $89.24 with tax.. .. Maybe it is just me out of touch with prices and that is the rate for two pieces of brake hose less than a foot long each. I am thinking that maybe I was charged for two sets in error? I complained little as It was suggested that I was given a deal as the list price was actually $56.10 per hose. I am looking at the bill in my hand and then the two puny little bits of hose thinking that I must be crazy for paying nearly a hundred bucks for these. To top it off I don't even get the Mercedes star embroidered in them they are made by **R??
Two months ago I was in the same shop asking for a price for the same brake hoses and he had some mercedes hoses in stock for $60.00 for the pair. I did not get them at the time cause I thought that was steep and I could get them elsewhere for cheaper. In hindsight I should have snagged them back then.

Yesterday I priced them out at NAPA and he wanted $20 per hose + $26 for shipping. which was $6 more than the Mercedes hoses I thought my guy might still have....well he did not have them anymore, but ordered some more and then today this **R stuff arrives and what I believe to be way too expensive.. Please correct me if I am wrong and out of touch?
I bought 6 feet of -6 2 wire 3/8" hydraulic hose for under 20 bucks last week...browsed fittings for it to be between 3-4 dollars....plenty more material and larger size? or is this smaller stuff more difficult to work with? I feel like I am missing something here...1/2 my $.?

Also was wondering if the rumour is true that Peach Parts now ships to Canada. It looks to me like these hoses are offered in pairs for abit over $20.00 for a pair....once again looking for correction as it is unclear to me.

Peach parts do indeed now do overseas deliveries - it is advertised next to the tab for shop forum - where you have to fill in your username before you log on!

What you paid for the hoses was ridiculous and the shipping was way out of line also. Aftermarket hoses can be had for less than 10 bucks each. Original Mercedes hoses are out there for 20 bucks or less each. And shipping from the U.S. to Canada should only be a few bucks more than shipping between U.S. addresses. I know, I do it weekly. I could ship you a pair of those hoses for about 7 U.S. dollars. I don't sell Mercedes parts, but I know international shipping costs very well. I don't know why so many places make a big deal out of shipping internationally.

I advise that next time you need a part do a search on Google for the part # and go through the listings. It's really a buyer's world on the internet when it comes to most common parts like those hoses. And if you're having problems with getting items shipped to Canada perhaps you can make arrangments with someone you know in one of the northern states. They could receive packages for you and either forward them or, depending on your proximity to the border, have you pick them up.

They are around $12-16 online......not $40! :eek:

Now before you all get all testy about the price of the hose you need to take into consideration weather or not the hoses were biodiesel rated or not? EVERYBODY knows hoses with Bio rated hoses are more expensive.
that or it is possible his particular option package needs the Nuclear rating for time travel braking.
it's also possible the hoses have the gold dipped ends for corrosion resistance. 24K is not cheap you know!

I just replaced all four hoses on my '87 300D (W124, OM603) for about US$42 total. CDN$40 each is a bit much, even (thanks vstech!) if they are biodiesel-resistant.

Incidentally, for $40 each I would expect the manufacturing date code to be very recent (like 2010). What did you get, macdoe?

I got mine from NAPA. I paid less than $60 to replace all 4 hoses.

That's funny you should say that about the gold plated parts....that's what I keep thinking when looking at this bill. The Mercedes brand lines that I saw at said shop a couple months ago I think had that "gold like" anodized coating on the fittings. These new made in Italy hoses that I paid so much for yesterday don't even have that...fittings are just plain metal!

Thanks for letting me bounce this off you guys....these are the responses I expected but did not want to believe these guys would do this to me...I guess that is why I took their word for it yesterday and bought them. I deserve ridicule for paying this ridiculous price for two brake lines.

I have not taken these out of the bag yet so I may try to get my money back and order some from Peach parts if they will ship to us Canadians up here. I think even if he charges re-stock I will get some money back.
So anyone know if the price on peach parts is for a pair of rear brake hoses or per ea. hose.
Also curious what other Canadians pay for Mercedes parts when compared to Peach parts prices?

Not sure why a brake hose would need to be made out of bio diesel line, or is that a joke, forgive me for not having a sense of humour right about now....the more responses I read about brake line prices the worse I feel like a sucker born every day. I am also not sure why the date of manufacture should have anything to do with price but I will try to look for a date before I take them back. They are in the car ready to go back, I'LL post back on how much he nails me to restock. won't be going back there again. Thanks again for the insight on my bad purchase.

It was a joke. I'd return those lines to the con-artist that sold them to you, and then buy them online. At least it was just some brake hoses and not something REAL expensive.

we do not have the catalogue that peachparts has, but for items like brake hoses and any brake parts for that matter, we can get anything you'd need for your car.

from us, your price for those hoses would be $13.50/ea CAD.

Hello, Thanks Scott, I appreciate that very much, I'll be in contact shortly.... I think maybe avoiding customs etc. would be the way to go and your price seems much more sane as that is what I was figuring a reasonable price for brake hose to be. Thanks to everyone for your responses and encouragement to return those hoses as well.

So I went back to return those hoses yesterday.....and was very happy to receive a full refund. I am pretty sure it is his supplier that has the prices jacked up and it was just passed on to me. This shop is not in the parts buisness and the guy is a mechanic.

Also wanted to answer the question of the date those hoses were manufactured. Upon inspecting the hoses when I got into the car yesterday to return them...it looked like stamped on the hoses was 02/08/09. DOT. I was not aware that brake hoses were dated like that.

I think most independent shops that are not in the parts business, will jack up the price a good amount.

when I have asked the indy I sometimes use, for a part, the price is about double, or more.
