Best place/way to source a 602.961 Head
My 1987 190D is exhibiting all the signs of a bad head gasket, and i am looking for a shop to do the job. Before i take it somewhere to have it all taken apart, i want to have a head purchased, in case it it cracked. My upper radiator hose stays hard and hold pressure overnight. this supposedly can be a bad head gasket or cracked head. I also loose coolant, and had white smoke when the coolant % was not as diluted, as it it now.
Other than asking in the parts section of the forum, where else can i source a head. What head number would i want to hunt for?

craiglook.com ebay.com The chances of it being a head are pretty slim.

You might have a cracked head if it is original, per the FSM it had the same problems as the '87 300D head, ... I had the one replaced on my '87 190DT

so the next question is whether or not i can use the head from a Non-Turbo 602. i would assume not. what would be an average price for a #17 head (if this is the best # to hunt for).
Cheers

Try Metric Motors - http://www.mercedesengines.net/
I don't think 602 head casting numbers necessarily follow 603 head casting numbers, so I wouldn't say a #17, if it even exists in the 602 sequence, is better than what you have. Sixto 87 300D |

Check the FSM, there is a small chart of 602/3 head casting number and indicates which are turbo and which are NA.

I think the going price for the #17 is 1200.00 for a bare one -to go to the machine shop.
