intermittent wipers in W126 cars?
Did any of the W126 cars come with intermittent wipers? My '85 300SD has just the one 'speed' (AFAIK) and I was hoping there was a way to change that.
My old '85 Golf came from the factory with a fixed intermittent duration, but by swapping in the relay from a newer car I was able to add the variable delay function. Any chance there's anything similar for my Benz? TIA, Dan |
It's easier to retrofit a programmable delay relay into a Gen1 (IE 85 and before) W126. The Gen2 cars' wiper relay is built into a big relay unit which also handles the turn signals and rear defroster.
Perhaps one of these days I'll crack it open and retrofit a VW 99 wiper relay inside... -J |
I have multiple speeds on my '85 SD

Yes, you have a fixed delay, low, and high. Just like a VW, because they're wired the same way. VW changed the wiper relay in the early 90s on the upper range cars so you could program the delay interval. Turn it to delay, back off, wait until you need the glass cleared, turn it back to delay. The wipers now wipe at that interval.

Isn't there someone who sells an add-on variable intermittent module for 80s MBs?

Yes, it works the same as the VW unit, and only works on the gen1 cars.

Yes, there was a forum member who made this, along with tach amps.
He has a website:\ http://www.mbelectronicupgrades.com/Products.html |

VW's have spade plugs, MB's have round plugs. You'd need to make an adapter. What does the MB delay realy look like? I bet you might be able to stuff the guts of the VW relay into the MB case for a nice stealth fitment.

Good pricing too. Even with the core it comes out cheaper than my 03 Toyota's recent relay replacement. |
Hmm....I will need to find one of these relays.
