Different!!! c220 auto diesel elegance 1996
I have been reading through this forum and others regarding the MB that I own, a c220 auto diesel elegance 1996, and at a few times I thought of changing my transmission fluid, maf sensor, fixing the leak in my injection pump and my thermostat...only to find that...my car has an auto trans fluid dip stick , I have an air temp sensor, and that the thermostat is in a place not mentioned in Haynse or theses forums...am I driving a Merc with a Jag or a Ford engine??????

C220 Diesel (That we never got over here)
Chassis 202.121
Engine 604.910 So,You've got a Real Mercedes Diesel Engine. (We also never got the OM605 Diesel engine series.) The FSM over here shows the OM604 (AND OM605) series engines only because Mercedes did not separate the 604,605,606 series, and we did get the OM606. However, it takes some slight trickery to get the FSM to show you the 604,605 data.

I beleive the engine is a 604, and yes I do have a dip stick which is attached to a locking cap, also aLucas Er0046 injection pump which is leaking from the top (see my other posts), which is what started all this.

The delivery valve seals are usually the worst to deal with, eveything else can be easily unbolted, new gaskets or seals applie and then reinstalled without any special tools. Delivery valve seals require a special splined socket (there is a good DIY writeup by Parot of Doom on this forum).

I saw saor99's other post. The Lucas pump looks nothing like a Bosch pump. It's leaking from two cover plates about where the Bosch shutoff actuator would be. I think the delivery valves of the Lucas pump are on the aft end.
