Never race for pinks in a 240D!

Oh, and never turn on your engine after disconnecting the line to your mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Never bump the engine over with the starter while adjusting the valves, w/o holding the stop in.

Never start replacing parts until you're sure what you're replacing will actually solve the problem.

what? i turn it over by hand via the power steering pump pulley when i d0 valve adjustments or IP timing. i need to know if i need to avoid that. it's done no harm so far.

-never buy a diesel from a diesel "expert."

-never trust service records unless dealer or reputable Mercedes shop (maybe not even then)

-never buy an older diesel and imagine the only money you are going to spend on it is purchasing it.

In other words, don't buy an old car to save money; you will be disappointed. In reality, it will always be cheaper to drive a late model ricer if you need cheap, reliable transportation. These cars are hobbies, once you accept that you will be happier.

I have measured the voltage on several good schumacher chargers at 19 -21 volts. The transients can be much higher than that - not to even get into the coupling of various noise elements directly into the systems.
At the point in time where the connection is made at the battery terminals, all of these bad things can occur and damage or destroy anything that is connected to the system.
A battery alone is usually not damaged by all of these things, but semiconductors and discrete components can easily be .

Please explain where I err.

Another good reason not to own a car with semiconductors.
