OM617 cylinder head removal

How to pull the chain tensioner "plug" when pulling the head on an OM617 engine? I don't have a slide hammer, nor the room in the engine bay to use a generic one..

Chain tensioner plug? Do you mean the pins that hold the guide rail? If so...

Ideally you have a tool like this -

Or use a bolt that threads into the exposed end of the pin and stack washers, old injector heat shields work well, to extract the pin.

Are you sure he is not speaking of the Pin that holds the Idler Gear in the Cylinder Head? In the manual they show that being removed with a Slide Hammer.

A long Bolt with the threads if the Pin, a Nut, a Washer and and something like a Steel Tube with an inside diameter greater than the outside diameter of the pin would work.
Screw the Nut onto the Bolt Followed By the Washer and then the Tube. Then thread the Bolt into the Pin.
Hold the Bolt stationary and tighten the Nut; as you tighten the Nut the Pin will be pulled through the Tube.
