No pedal but no loss of brake fluid.

On my 83 300D, I have little or no pedal but no loss of brake fluid. If I pump the pedal, I get a bit of resistance which quickly goes away. If I push the pedal all the way down, I will get some stopping but it's weak.

I'm thinking it's the master cylinder.

I'm thinkin' what you're thinkin'. ;)

definitely sounds like the master cylinder. Pretty easy job, just did mine a little while back. Definitely buy the correct flare nut wrench, worth every penny (and doesn't cost much more than that).

That's the way my SDL was, no pedal resistance and no leaks. The master cylinder from my parts car fixed it.

Correct, the master cylinder has failed.

It is called internal bypass failure.
