HELP! NO START! NOTHING!

the interior lamps and buzzers work as they should, I have 12.8 volts at the battery and the seats move when the door is open, all normal functions when the car is off with no key in the ignition. The problem is my key is in the ignition in the on position. I have no dash lights, no radio, I cannot turn on the headlights, and of course the car wont start. I didnt have a d.v.o.m. at work or a test light so thats as far as I got. So my beloved benz sits in the parking lot at work tonight alone. In the meantime have any of you seen anything like this? Besides the usual check fuses, battery connections, ground, ect. Im thinking ignition switch.

also this moring the dashlights cut out on me two or three times pulling out of the driveway and the car almost stalled each time. then it was fine for the 20+ mile drive to work. It should have been an indicator to me to leave her home for the day. oh well

what car?
if it's an SD, look under the dash near the accelerator pedal, there is a bundle of wires on a socket. make sure it's plugged in.

it didnt matter where the gear shift was turning the key resulted in no change at all as i inserted the key and turned it the car made no changes no buzzer no lights nothing. But it ok now I went to work this moring and took the dash apart in the parking lot. I started checking electical connections and when I was wiggling wires around everything started working as usual. So she is back home but the dash is pulled apart, Im not going to put it back together untill I pin piont the exact problem and fix it so thats on the ajenda for today. VSTECH thank you for your reply though I do not have a SD I do have a electical connection issue. Your reply got me wiggling wires and wiggling wires got me home. Thanks

before you pull the dashboard check things like battery connections just loosen them and clean it and put it back even clean to where the wires from the battery lead:
(+) from battery to starter solenoid
(-) from battery other end is bolted on to the body
clean these areas before you pull the dash board

Check a few things....

Change all of your fuses, even if they appear to be good. Get the good copper ones.

If it starts, then your glow plugs are working.

I'm wondering if you have a short somewhere? I don't know enough to give advice, but after I replaced my glow plugs, one of the wire eyelets from the harness (the part that goes around the glow plug) was turned enough to where it was touching the engine block, shorting it out.

Good luck.
