non turbo 617 engines
 

I have an 85 300D non turbo 617 with a 4 speed manual transmission.

I'm missing a rubber grommet on the throttle linkage between the rod that comes off the linkage to the accelerator pedal and the linkage that is connected to the engine.

I'm wondering how important this little rubber grommet is. Since the linkage in that one spot no longer has the rubber, it seems that with the accelerator fully open, it might not be pushing the linkage quite as far as it should.

I haven't seen this part listed anywhere.

Not sure if anyone will know what I'm talking about.

I've seen the throttle linkage on the turbo diesels and it is different than the non-turbo.

Any thoughts?

There seems to be a bewildering number of different throttle linkages out there... your best bet is to ask a dealer or a specialist parts guru with photographs and a chassis number.

I have mine secured with a tight wrap of bindertwine. It sucks but it works.

Tom, that sounds like the exhaust holding rings on my 300D.

my 85 euro is a wagon, so it's got the turbo... the only other cars I have non turbo are an 80 wagon and a 78 sedan... I'll look over the linkage for ya, but I gotta think the 85 euro would not have the same linkage as the 78/80...

The throttle linkages all look similar but there are many variations. When you take one apart and try to put it back on an engine you soon believe it was designed by a mad scientist who has a devious desire to make following people suffer!;)

Anything that creates slop in the linkage should be repaired. The part number is hard to come by sometimes. It is in the archives somewhere I remember at 1.00 a pair from mercedes if you can get the part number.

You can also make substitutes yourself for the type I think you are mentioning. The rubber can rot off with age. There are two rubber sleeves on what looks like a universal joint on some types. This is located along the side of the manifold.

I took a picture but I can't find the cable to upload it.

In any case, I talked with my local mechanic and he suggested using strips of 1/4" fuel line and put them over the rod to serve as grommets. I think this will work great!

No more loose throttle linkage for me!
