come on, give them all the details... it was not just large name additives that got your tranny shifting again!

Wow ! Thanks on the response.
Talked to the transmission shop today and they are going to change the fluid and have ordered a filter, hopefully it is a clogged filter. They don't do the the "flush" style when I mentioned it as not an option. Will post my diagnosis/fix's when known.

Thanks for the support.

This method is old school, assuming that you have the amount of transmission fulid that you MB needs I will add 1/4 of a 10 oz bottle of brake fluid so the seals could lubricate but again I would let my experts in this forum decide and advise you first before you do this..

Acetone is another old-school fix, just a solvent like the trans-x etc contain to soften and swell seals. It will eventually evaporate out of the mix.

So I got the car back from the Trans Mech. He replaced the filter, cycled through trans. fluid until clean/clear red and cleaned/put the pan back on. He said the fluid looked red to slightly tarnished and there was sludge but no visible metal or other particles. Drove it home and no problems, shifted as usual. I drove it yesterday for about 100 miles, highway and stop and go around town, no problems and once again shifted fine and smooth. So..... fixed ? It has been warm the past few days on the east coast, mid 60's night and like 72 yesterday during the day in PRV RI. The Mech. said if it does start acting up it could possibly happen when it gets cold again, rubber seals getting old and hard when cold ? So now I drive it until then ? I guess. Does this sound familiar ? If seals/gaskets will need replacing, whats a ball-park $ on a cost for this service ? Also, any suggestion on a good Mercedes Mech. in the southern New England area ? I really need to find one when issues arise now that I am on the east coast again, I am not set up with a garage/tools to do anything myself, nor am I all that comp. to tackle most. Thanks again for all the replies on the post.

Might be that the transmission is fine, ... for now.

As they age, more friction material is coming off, clogs the filter sooner. It could also have been way past-due for a change.

I'd drive it until it's next change, maybe a littler sooner than the usual interval, give it another filter and fluid change then if there's no problem. If it develops a problem again, look for a good reman.
