What kind of axle shaft?
Can anyone tell me what kind of axle shaft this is. The one in my car looks like it. I need to replace them on my 84 300D and there is two different kinds. Any help is appreciated. See the attatched pic.

What are the choices?
When I replaced the axle shafts on my '82 300D there was no issue of a choice. Ken300D |

Two axle types
Apparently after 1981 there were two different kinds of shafts that were put on until 1985. They were (I'm not sure of spelling) homokinetic and anular.

I'm guessing you're looking at the W123 factory manuals. Confusing, aren't they? I think the reason that section is so confusing is because it is written for a much wider variety of car than just the W123. Possibly they use that one section in a lot of manuals.
Anyway, here's a chronicle of some earlier work I did with the help of member SW. If you accidently ended up at Performance Products I think they'd only have one type axle for your car. Replaced Axle Shafts w/ Rebuilts But The Noise Persists Ken300D |
