Fuel level sender -same for diesel & gas?
 

In a ironic moment of father/son bonding my son(17) snapped the thin wires while cleaning his 1985 300D fuel level sender. Dad proudly showed him how to do it and I promptly snapped the thin wires on the fuel level sender on my 1983 300SD. Attemped repairs with similar wire and soldering proved unsuccessful.

The local boneyard had lots of gasser MBs in the same age range but no Diesels.

Are the fuel level senders both the same for Diesel and Gassers?

I am not sure but there are two choices.Actually three. First get the part numbers of the gas and diesel cars gauges to check for same or different part numbers. You might do this through our on site parts supplier or by just a call to a mercedes dealership.

Second is it is so easy to remove the gauges that the yard may allow a direct comparison with what you have. Or if the gasser tank measures the same overall height you are probably home free.

Last but not least wait to see if anyone already knows for sure. My suspicion is that if both gas and diesels use the same size fuel tank the gauge is identical.

Operationally electrically is not the issue. Length of the unit is in my mind.

I can tell you that the internals are way different. I put a gaser one in mine and I had eratic readings so I took it apart to be sure it was not varnished. This could have just been another bad unit. Put another diesel one in from my 82 parts car and GTG.

Whunter said they are the same. I've got a few pulls from a yard.

Doesn`t seem like MB would make a different size tank for gas or diesel.

The fuel sender that I pulled from a 190E (well, actually I found it laying in the trunk - woot!) is working fine in my 190D.
