Could be the same one if you sold it only a few years ago...it was and will be winter driven.

That does look like Milan Brown and Bamboo. Milan Brown I like, but the Bamboo is, err, too 70's for me. Still, that interior looks like it has some real potential, if their are no lawn pavers, bricks, or spray foam stuffed in your seats. (I had all three in my W123 seats! )

That rust... I don't know. I think I'd run away. I'd be capable of dealing with it, but I sure wouldn't want to. How does that rust compare to other W116 bodies in your neck of the woods?

It's very comparable....that is, if you're lucky enough to find a w116.

As for running away, she was going to be sent to the pound if no one claimed her for the price I paid. And we all know what happens to unwanted ones when they go to the pound.

BTW, the instrument cluster is phenomenal. I couldn't believe how bright it was.

Yes, I see. They do like to rust, don't they? They even rust here, where the roads are never salted, but never as bad as yours. I suppose for the area you're in, that isn't really too bad.

I don't lose much sleep over the unwanted ones. I just view them as necessary organ donors for the ones that we do want to keep! That said, both of my 300D's were probably, uh, pound bound, and one of them still is, seeing as how I purchased it solely for the updated drivetrain. I pretty much saved both of them from becoming grease cars that ended up abandoned on the side of the road or impounded after six months of abuse.

Can anyone tell me if that belt flapping like that under load is normal or very abnormal?

Best LQQKING $300 car I've ever seen - especially in Canadian dollars.

For $40 you can get a 3-pointed hood star.

Thanks for the kind words for this old girl. I'm afraid the $300 is a bit misleading.

You see.....I sold an engine from a 1979 just like this one (brown/beige even) for $250 last week.........so I'm actually only out $50 so far.

Who says women are the only ones who know how to shop?

Yes, that is abnormal. If you're out of adjustment, a new proper sized belt is in order.

For some reason, I couldn't watch the videos the other day, but they work for me today. I agree, that the belt flap is not normal. I'd go ahead and just replace it, because I replace anything questionable like that on principle, but tightening it up might work just as well.

As for being only $50 in to the car... Well, I will just hang my head in shame. I am at least several thousand dollars, three years, and several months in to my nasty old Merc dependency at this point, and still can't drive it. I do, however, have an impressive pile of nice parts. If I can just double the pile of parts and throw some paint at the crusty old shell, I might just be able to reconstruct a fairly nice car some day.

No, not the same one as the new owner still has it, but it's a very similar car. Maybe you'll see it driving down the road some day.

I wish I knew why it was flapping like that, but maybe I will look into tightening it up.

I have been there before, both with a Mercedes and currently with a Willys jeep and a Porsche 944. Both were cheap, both need work.

Don't lose hope....just be realistic about your goals with it and don't go over and above the amount you need to put into it.
