Yeah! Those 8mm nuts were hell! I wonder if the glow plugs were original. I doubt it.

Whenever I have to change the glow plugs again, I'm gonna take off the injector lines immediately. I think it's worth the 10mins. I just found it impossible to remove the plugs with those lines in place. I guess it's possible.

Nate,
The theoretical ignition source is the spark that occurs when the loose GP wire bounces around and touches an earth.
Now lets drop all this theoretical c##p & restrict our self to practical suggestions. I have not had to remove injector lines, the ring end of a combination or a swivel on a socket helps, once started, undo by hand.

An ignition source is a necessary antecedent to the conditional scenario presented. If the engine started, there had to be an ignition source. The nature of the source in of no relevance.

Every forum seems to have a chap or two who appear to think that the moderators died and left them in charge!!! Can you offer any practical solutions to that problem?

Tango,
The comment was "tongue in cheek". I guess yours was too !!

I did offer suggestion in the post !

Best not to quote only part of a message, only politicians do things like that & I dont think you would not want to be considered one of "them"!!

I remember the original poster saying that the 8mm nuts were rusted on.
Well Rust happens and sometimes things do not come apart like they are supposed to because of it.

I think without the Fuel Injection Lines changing the Glow Plugs has to be easier and faster.

I suspect that some do not want the Fuel leak associated with bleeding the Fuel Injection Lines; which would have to be done if they were removed.
I just put in 5 new glow plugs with the injector lines in place a month ago. It was not difficult. As I recall from memory, #1 thru 4 can be removed with 1/4" drive ratchet, 12 mm deep socket on a universal and an extension. #5 I used a gear wrench and a foot long needle nose pliers. The hardest part as i recall was getting the 8 mm nuts off and back on without dropping them! I have ideas to eliminate the 8 mm nuts and use a quick connect, that should make changing glow plugs and taking compression readings a pleasure instead of a chore.

digiediny, after looking at your pics my guess is you did not put penetrating oil on the 8mm nut and you did not hold the ring elec connector as you turned the nut and that's how you spun the electrode. Most people over tighten that 8 mm nut which is unnecessary. All you need is make it snug for an electrical connection which makes it easier to remove and not twist the electrode off.

Next time cover up the injectors with the lines removed. Cleaniness is important!

I havnt heard of "U-Tube", but making a video of this method sounds like a challenge. It would be great to share it on youtube.com.

I haven't driven my car since I changed the glow plugs. I was driving it today and now the glow plug light stays on while I'm driving. Would that indicate that my relay is going bad? I have an extra one at home.

Is "havnt" a word in the English language?
