Thank you... hooray for random forum reading!
only in the back fortunately, you only have to keep track of ten of them! Im gonna paint my ten short lugs some outrageous color so I don't lose them.

Bundt lugs work just fine on the steel wheels up front

In the above post showing the 2 types of lug bolts, it say`s #1 is for the light alloy wheels.

would this mean the 240D alloy, or the bundt wheels?

#1 looks like the same one`s for the Bundts.

I have a set of the alloys for the 240 i want to install, and wondered if the bolts for the steel wheels would be the same.

the picture looks like it could be for the 240D.

well DUHHH, I have a 240, maybe I should just go look in my owners manual .

Charlie
I had several of those aluminum versions of the steel wheels on a parts 240 I had a couple years ago. I bet you they take the same steel wheel short lug. They look almost identical to the steel rim in dimensions, I don't think they are thicker, but you should go and measure if you have them there, would be really interesting to see if the aluminum versions are the same in all dimensions!

I'm guessing too that the Aluminum wheels would also be closer to the thickness of the steel rims ones - though I'm hoping they are slightly thicker!

In post #13 is says "For light alloy DISK wheel". so this leads me to believe they are talking about the 240 Aluminum wheel, not the Bundt.

When it gets light out side, I`ll mount one to see if I can drive more than 8 inches. I have 6 of these wheels.

They're talking about the bundts, because the bundts are lighter than the steel wheels.

The aluminum version of the steelies should also use the lug bolts made for steelies if the design is the same dimension-wise.

Both steel wheels and alloy steelies use the same lugs. The shorter lugs with the star in the middle. I learned this from experience, but also have a nifty MB "hang-tag" that warns the owner about lugbolt usage.

This afternoon I pulled the R/R wheel off the 300D, and mounted the 240D light alloy disk wheel. I used the Bundt lug bolts (which look exactly like the ones in the pic in post#13) tightened it all down. turned the wheel, and could hear the end of the bolt contacting the parking brake.

Looking at the concave contact area where the bolt seats into the wheel, the distance from the front to the rear side of the wheel. The bundt looks like to be an inch, and the light alloy maybe 1/2 of that.

So the short one`s it is. That picture diagram is sort of decieving.

Thanks for verifying this Charlie. The picture diagram was straight from a scanned copy of the owner's manual.
