Sounds like this "Diesel Doctor" stuff is just what I need!! Where do I get it? Auto parts store? Truck maintenance shop? Marine maintenance shop? I'm in the Seattle, WA area and I'm having no luck finding it online.

Thanks!

This is a 6 year old thread.

Diesel Doctor is no longer made.

Startron, Biobor, Diesel 911, any of those will work.

Hi Guys,

I've been having to change the pre-filter very often and it gets clogged to the point it stops the engine.

I put another filter just before the pre-filter 2 days ago and it's clogged already.

I don't know what to do. I went to a boat store looking for some additive...and they want 26 bucks for a liter...and I'm supposed to put 1 oz. for every 16 gallons. That's an expensive option.

How about the diesel doctor offered by performance products? It is something I have to use every time I fill up the tank, or is it something to be used at certain mileage or time interval?

Thanks for any input...

Kefer,

You have water in your fuel tank! Water is what contributes to the breeding ground for your algae. You can add a biocide and it may clear up your filter plugging, but unless you find the reason you have water it will repeat. In the mean time be prepared to change filters until algae is completely removed.

Save your money and don't cut up the stock parts! Forget the magnetic filter device, the factory devices are very very good. You probably will never get water in your fuel from anything except a contaminated tank at the service station.

I treat with ordinary diesel injector cleaner and water purge from time to time but normally only treat for bacteria if I see the black dots.

I've been driving the diesels for over 20 years. I've had at least five gm diesels, one ford and over twenty benz diesels.

Post Yabbutt ;

You're a Dieselhead and take proper care of them , most of the questions are from Newbies who buy some long dormant klunker and it chugs or dies .

I use Startron as there's no filter changing necessary , unlike other fungus treatments (it's NOT algae BTW , it's fungus !) Startron is an enzyme that eats the fungus , the resulting detrius is so fine it'll pass right through the system without any damage .

As I only buy junkers , I've had to use it on every Diesel I've owned .

The Diesel Coupe I just bought had been sitting since 2006 and has the very worst fungus problem I've _EVER_ seen ~ I had to remove the InTank screen to-day for cleaning , the fungus slime was 1/4" thick all the way around it .

Now to find a West marine store , they closed the Inland ones in So. Ca. and I live far from the beach , they have Startron affordably .
