Running Rough after long storage
 

My 1984 300D, which I loaned to a child, sat for two years down in Florida without being properly stored. The car has only 94,000 miles. When I went to retyrieve it, the engine started but is running very rough. I suspect that the injectors are gummed up from the old fuel in them whenj it was shut off. My question is whether there is some sort of solvent that I could run through the engine that woulkd free them up. I don't really want to have to remove the injectors.

There are diesel purge products that you could try. There are several threads on here that explain diesel purges. Try doing a search.
It is likely that you will have bugs in the fuel tank as well. If I were you, before doing a purge, I would add a suitable anti microbial to the tank. It may fix all the rough running problems.
A good long run on fresh fuel may improve things.

You should also consider new fuel filters, at least a new secondary can type and you'll need at least one new plastic primary filter, a couple extras of these is always good to have on hand, the crystal clear type are best for being able to see what and how much might be in the fuel system. Sitting for two years in the warm and humid conditions of Florida is conducive to bacterial growth in the fuel tank and system so be prepared for some more extensive rehab of that system. The strategy of running the engine from a small one or two gallon tank in the engine is probably something to consider, that way you can get the engine to run on fresh fuel and then try to figure out if the fuel system needs work.

The LubroMoly Diesel Purge requires a specific procedure of bypassing the fuel tank. If you are away from home and do not have the tools to do this properly, you should consider a double dose of Marvel Mystery Oil in the tank along with fresh fuel. That will clear your clogged injectors.

The normal dose is 4oz MMO to 10 gal of fuel. I would start with that. Best of Luck!
