Alternator Air Intake Cover/Hose

While changing the transmission fluid I noticed my alternator had a ducted tube connected to the rear of it. Looks to me like the wiring resides in the hose as well as accommodating air flow for cooling.

Does this hose exhaust air, or is the other way around?

Looked through EPC and this hose is described as "Hose, Alternator air intake hose to console". Sounds like the alternator sucks air through the hose and then exhausts out the front? What console are the speaking of?

The hose connects to a cover attached to the rear of the alternator. I would have to remove the cover to get to the regulator and brushes.

I've never seen a setup like this before, usually alternators are "naked".

It sound like it is the Intake.
The way to tell for sure is to look at the fan on the front of the Alternator and the direction of rotation.

Look at the opposite end of #71

It it fits into a purpose made opening in the Upper Aluminum Engine (Right Hand)Compartment Sidewall.
If it's "Ducting" air,the air flow is going to the:
"Air Cleaner/Rats Nest of Electro Vacuum EGR EDS actuators and sensors/Cooling System Surge Tank Compartment".

I think this is Dual Purpose Flexi-Pipe;
1.Allows the Alternator's Fan(s) to push air into the Side engine compartment.
(Why youse wanna do dat ? Answers,Answers ???)
2.Protects the Output Wiring Cables from the Alternator.

I looked it over once again. It does connect to the side compartment. The hose is actually foil wrapped hard tubing. So maybe it insulates the wiring from the heat off of the turbo. It is less than 9 inches away from it after all. I need to investigate further.

Surely I am not the first to notice this?
