Not a Mercedes, but it's a diesel, and it's mine...
 Heh, now I have no excuse not to go pick up any straggler mercedes that I find deals on... and I have a way to get the carcasses to the scrapyard! I'ts an 89 international with the 7.3 IDI. it has a HUMONGUS 14v alternator, and onboard air compressor. air bag rear lift, and tons of storage. it's only got 5 gears... no split case/diff. but it's got a/c, and semidecent mileage... but it's got 460K on the odo...  he wants to trade it to me for a turbodiesel wagon.  I think I can oblige him.

Awesome
Go score a used ATS or Banks turbo kit for it now too... or with the mileage, perfect candidate for a modern DI turbocharged motor.

Imagine driving down the road & some DB tail gates you. Drop the ramps & hit the brakes ! By the time the DB realizes it, he has learned a new meaning to "fly over" !! I can just see it now traveling along with Roy's bus on the back. It would nearly look a bit rude !! Go for it !!

OMG!!! perfect solution to get his 309 to his house!
imagine how high that load would be!!! I'm at 11' add another 10 or so... I think I'd need special permits to haul 21' load!

yeah, you might be too high for some bridges!
I talked to a trucker once who was hauling a unimog as the only cargo on one of those large double decker car trailers behind a semi. It was the worst possible weight distribution, but he was forced to back the unimog onto the very tail of the car trailer ramp so that the cab would remain below bridge height!

I have drooled over those a few times when they come up for sale at the local uhaul! Check out http://www.oilburners.net/ it has the best, most similar to this forum for Ford/IHI IDI 6.9/7.3 trucks!

I like the 6.9 better, the 7.3 did make some improvements but there is some trouble. It is prone to cavitation eating through the cylinder walls, so read up and check your SCA levels immediately. i guess it could be a little like 617/603 camps. 603 made improvements and was 'better' but it had flaws that if kept in check are fine, ignored tragic.
