124 hoses are crimped on?

OK, I'm annoyed with MB for the 124 changes...
why did they get rid of the rebuildable hydraulic hose ends?

the 123 SLS and PS hoses are elegant simple to rebuild.
unscrew the fittings, cut hose to ends, and screw ends on new hose...

124 hoses are CRIMPED ON!!!!

man this sucks.
my PS hose spit a load and I gotta rebuild it. I pulled a spare off of my D, but I gotta get new ones in there...

I think I'm going to grind off the crimp and cut new hose to fit.
anybody done this?
I'll take pics if it's wanted...

I'm about 90% sure my 603 has crimped fittings. Any tractor/bobcat repair shop and a lot of chain auto parts stores will make you a matching hose if you take the old one in to match length and fittings.

CarQuest in particular usually has a sign out front (Not all of them, but most in our part of the country) that reads "We make hydraulic hoses" or something like that.

I think in a high pressure environment I'd trust a crimped fitting. They probably had trouble with w123s blowing them off under pressure periodically and went to a sturdier fitting. That being said, I've never seen the screw-type ones you're talking about so I can't say anything one way or another.

Either way, if it was mine I'd just haul the old hose to Carquest and have them crimp you a new one.

HA the screw together fittings never open up. the hoses do fail.
crimp on fittings force the average diy mechanic to buy hoses from MB...

Wouldn't it be nice if the oil cooler lines had screw on fittings.

Crimped on ends are probably cheaper to manufacture.

Is there a way the screw on ends can be adapted? Probably not.

wonder what the price difference between the dealer and a hydraulic hose shop??

I'm about to order some aeroquip locks and some hose... I hesitate to order a new hose. napa said they can rig something to the existing line...
I think I can dremel off the crimp, then fit some 1000psi hose and use aeroquip compression ends to seal it... I'll take pics when I figure out what to do...

Anyone have hoses/lines made for the W124 SLS? I am having trouble removing the lines from my accumulators. Perhaps a new one can be fabbed from the old?

One of the small lines already had a rounded head, and I cant get either allen socket, banjo bolt to loosen to save my life. I was able to loosen the connection between the hard line and the line that directly feeds the strut. (Essentially, the joint behind the rear wheels that gets covered in crap that you would expect to never come apart again......loosened easily.)

In an effort to move this along today, (I have new accumulators to install), I may have to use copious amounts of heat, and/or cut things.

John,
I have a tool called a "twitcher". it allows me to use stainless wire to clamp hoses on to the barb ends that were originally crimped. you end up with about 10 or 20 turns of the wire around the hose & the ends are just rolled over so the dont break like twisted wire. I have used it on hydraulic hose that has Kevlar reinforcement.
Its the sort of simple tool that any one with a lathe & a bit of ability could make.

How about a couple of pictures of your "twitcher, sounds like a handy tool to have.A picture of a completed repair would be great too if you have one.
