A friend of mine here in Sydney has got family members working for mercedes in Germany and he can order the glow plugs from there. He also owns a C250 turbo diesel.
Is it correct to say that both C250 TD and E300 TD share the same GPs? If that is the case, Then we can order two sets at once. What I need though is the part number for the GPs. Does anybody know where to get the part number please? I am ever so thankfull for all the help. |

If the C250 is an OM605, then yes, they are the same.
The GP I have here for my car is: 0 250 201 038 That should also be the MB part number.

KarTek, thanks for your guidance on the glow plug test. I know our '98 has at least one GP out. I was able to verify this yesterday. The other five GPs show right around 1 ohm. It's strange, but I've got no warning lights on the dashboard suggesting a problem. (The car is running on 5 cylinders when it starts, that's hugely obvious.) The bad GP shows open circuit, I think it's #4

Yeah, mine's currently doing the same thing. It always makes itself known when the outside temps dip below about 50 deg.
My GP's are all different ages so I probably have at least one original in there somewhere.

The plugs were replaced in our car about 60k miles ago. Not sure what sort of surprises are ahead
The car has no problem starting and we've had some cold days already. I just don't like the car chugging away on 5 cylinders, belching smoke on cold start up. |

Depending on how many and which plug is bad, you may not get a glow plug and check engine light. I had one plug go out two different times (different plug each time) and one gave me the idiot lights while the other did not.

Usually on a 606 you'll get the extended glow light and "Engine Electronics" verbage on the dash display as indicators of bad GP. As I posted previously, 3 critical steps to successful 606 glow plug removal...warm engine, lots of PB Blaster, and torque wrench to remove plugs...never exceeding 50Nm.

Spark, thanks for the tips.
I'm going to try to find someone in the area interested in doing the work on the car. While I've had the intake manifold off on my 1999 diesel, it's not a job I will do again myself. I've lost the desire to be working on these cars, FWIW.
