That's how I bought my first Citroen in the US and met the late Dr Charles Anderson, the retired Public Health Commissioner. In addition to buying the car, we became friends and he gave me his WW II memorabilia, from when he helped to liberate Paris on 25 Aug 1944. I still have his Bronze Star and his Officer's handbook.

I tried that once when a tossed rod stopped a guy's truck right in front of my house. I happened to have an engine that would fit it at the time, and needed a truck, so i figured it was worth a shot. He refused to sell it. Oh well.

Oddly enough, I have been approached twice with offers to buy my Chrysler convertible since I purchased it two-and-a-half years, and 16,000 miles ago. Mostly, it just gets whistles and winks from the ladies when the top is down. (Should have bought one of these when I was single!)

Of Course !!!

Yeah, I bought Coda that way. She was barely on the end of driveway; her nose & body were in the backyard. 4 other vehicles parked behind her blocking her path to the free world we call the open road.

It was Super Bowl Sunday, 2008, about 45 minutes before kickoff. I didn't stay but about 10 minutes -- looking at the car, talking to the owner, car would not even turn over; very dead battery, but the vacuum locks worked! The owner called me back in 2 days and wanted an offer from me; he called me back a week a later with a price. I bought Coda the next day/night.

On the other hand I've got at least 5 offers for my Caddy. The Benz hasn't gotten any offers as of yet
Oh man... Drive my 83 Caddy through Detroit, I can't remember the number of offers I got for that. And after trying to deal with that engine, I should have taken somebody up on it.

I went with a friend to look at a 84 300SD. I decide it was not for me my friend decide he wanted it and bought it for 1,000. I looked over and under a shed was a 84 300CD which was not for sale but I bought it anyway . The guy also had a 350SDL which look great but now after reading post about those it makes you wander.

Before I got my hands on my Dad's 85 SD my Mom had a guy come by the house every month and try to low ball her on it. I called him and thanked him for his interest and then informed him of the no soliciting sign at the walkway.
On the other hand :
68 Caddy in driveway- 2-3 times a year some one doing home repair in the neighborhood come to the door and either offer lees than the scrap value or will haul it off for free.
82 Porsche 911- Same story as above.
92 500E -Same as above.
85 300SD- People stop me a t traffic lights and ask me to sell it to them.
I figure that this either means :
A. I dress like I could use the money ( any money and am desperate)
B. The Car's look like scrap.
C. They genuinely feel sorry for the car.
D. I picked the right vehicles to love and own.

I have a standing offer on my 88 Fiero, I'm not interested in selling it. I also have a friend who calls me monthly to buy my diesel jetta. The problem is, he wants the bro-price not what its worth, so I'm not selling it either.

The S350 I was posting about a while ago I pulled off the road and called the guy (it was behind his business) sadly he has decided not to negotiate even though his car has a burnt motor...

A guy from LA. told me to call him when I wanted to sell my '83 300SD. I did, the doofus didn't even have a friggin' $2,500. Good Lord! The car turned for nearly $5K inside a couple weekends.
*Footnote on the guy in LA that just "had to have my '83 SD," in '99. The reason he used as an excuse was "he couldn't take the time off to come pick it up." Translation=didn't have even the $500 to ship a $5K car, when he's only paying $2,500 for it. He was a product mgr. (highly paid) at the firm I repped 20 years for. He had seen my '83 SD in Memphis, TN., is when he told me to call when selling, because he "just had to have it." Six months later at a sales meeting in Vegas, he asked what I sold the car for. When I told him $5K, he just hung his head. It was a beautiful car, I must admit!

he's probably not a reader of Tom Stanley's blog.

It is interesting because most readers of his blog DO NOT need a lot of advice already.

Kinda like seeing the slim joggers on the road. They look like they shouln't be the ones jogging.

I would have to agree. When fellow indy sales reps. from around the country (including the president) with the firm started asking me for financial advice 15+ yrs. ago, I noticed I may have missed a calling. Oh well, water under the bridge. Life is a struggle one way or the other for all of us...

There was a note on my old Honda wagon with an offer.

Needless to say I turned it down

Every time I see a bug-eye sprite or Lotus seven I make an offer. Never works.
