consoldated questions
thanks in advance for any help:
'79 240D 123 616 1) air cleaner element. it's a little larger than stock, so the high ridges aren't where they're supposed to be. i've centered it as good as possible, but i don't know if it's sealing when i can't see it. NAPA says it's the correct filter. any suggestions? anyone experience this? 2) transmission fill/drain plugs. anyone care to share the sizes of the hex sockets (for allen wrench)? 3) horn. it's not working, i haven't taken steering wheel off yet. are there any typical problems with these? fuses are good. thanks for entertaining these, i received direction to consolidate, and since this seems like the best place for the filter element and tranny, i'm posting here. 1. As long as the air filter is hitting the top you'll be fine. Put a peice of tape sticky side up on top of the rubber part of the filter, then put the lid on and see if the tape sticks to the lid or not. If not then change the filter.
2. Since you are asking about the fill plug you must have a manual trans. If so then you'll need a 14mm allen bit socket or allen wrench. If it's an automatic then I believe the drain plug is 5mm. There isn't a fill plug on an auto. 3. First check the fuse. Then pull the rubber center off the wheel and make sure both horn wires are properly attached. Then check the wires at the horns themselves in the front under the car. Just noticed you're in Springfield, OR. I'm in Albany. I lived in Springfield for a couple years, and Eugene for a few as well. Look me up if you need a hand with anything.
