For what it's worth here is my view. I put parts store rotors and pads on my wifes Infiniti I35 (quick brake job). In less than 12000 miles the rotors were trashed. I just spent a LOT more money doing it a SECOND time but with EBC rotors and Red Stuff pads. At the same time I did my '87 300d with good quality rotors and Red Stuff pads. Not worth going cheap. No shudder when stopping, check the wear on the rotors, if good install pads and move on. Any shudder when stopping, replace pads AND rotors. $15 per rotor to machine times 2 = $30. Your time to run rotors to get machined, wait for them to get done, go back and pick up rotors is worth way more than the $70 or so to buy new, have the job completed and the car back on the road. My '06 truck just had the fronts done at 60k. The Infiniti had over 50k on the last GOOD set. My Jeep had over 50k on those as well. Why cheap out on something so important?

The last time I did hers, I did do the rotors, perhaps 5-6 years ago, because of scoring. She had the pads done on a trip at a dealer since then, but she cannot find the record. So should I do both even if the rotors are in spec? I know this is kind of a dumb question, and I wouldn't be asking if not for that article on MB stating to do both. Thanks
