This last weekend I replaced the motor mounts.
 

I tore into the drivers side thinking it would be the easiest. After jacking the car and putting it on stands. I again used the trusty sissor jack and a 1.49 twoxfour that I bought at home depot to jack the engine up. I did unclamp the fan shroud but I don't think I even jacked it up enough for the fan to touch. The old one came out easy and after setting the old one next to the new one, I could see a good half inch between the two.

I did a little research before tearing into the passanger side. I took the air cleaner off and could now look down and see the inner bolt. This side took all of 45 minutes. I was lucky that all the bolts looked to be in good shape and I could get the 6mm and 8mm in firm before undoing them. I did use pb blaster on them before loosening. I also was lucky in that I didn't have to use the pry bar that I had bought for the project.

Yesterday I put the car thru and lot of stop and go traffic and now I notice a shake at idle setting at the light. I haven't replaced the driverside engine shock but the passanger shock is there and the rubber is in good shape. My next project will be replacing the tranny mount and the differental mount.

What car is this on?

My 83 300sd, I thought my signature would show up. I guess not.

I had to retighten after some driving. The lower 8mm bolts loosened up on me.

During research I came across that a couple of times. This weekend I will check the bolts and see if they are loose. The roads here are pretty smooth compared to other places.

Yes here is the valley we have it good till about May. I have a hard time working on cars when it is 105 outside at 2am.

I am doing this soon to my TD. I need to wind prof my little maintenance tent then I can aim my torpedo heater in there. Gotta be careful not to bake the paint off the car :eek:

Too bad you're not closer, I'd be happy to share the garage (and heat) up here this weekend and we could do both cars.

engine vibrate
 

Last night on the way to work the vibration got pretty bad at the stop lights. I didn't feel it on the way home this morning, but decided to see if the 8mm bolts were loose. On the passanger side it was loose pretty bad. The drivers side was loose but nothing like the passanger side. I will check again in a week and see if they are still loose. I will also report back if I get the vibration back.

Too bad my 300d in INOP right now. I am heading to Detroit sometime next week. I still haven't decided on taking the TD or 400e... guess it depends on if I am transporting the cats with me or not.

Getting ready to do the mounts on mine. Would a lock washer or lock tite be bad for this job? Not that I'd want to go against the original set up, but that sure sounds like a lot of re-work to me!

I would use blue loctite on the underside bolts. Torque them to spec which think is 25nm.

Also don't waste your money on the engine shocks. I destroyed mine by jacking up the engine and not disconnecting them. I haven't noticed any change in driving or shutdown.

As for your shakes, I would look at the ramp dampener bolt. It may need replacing.
