My Benz and I transferred from Florida to Texas
Hi all.
My company moved from South Florida to Texas in the Irving area. I realize that the temperatures are more extreme (hotter and colder) in Texas than in Florida. I have a 1995 MB E300D with ~173,000 miles on the clock. What oil is recommended for both summer and winter driving? Can anyone recommend a good and reliable Mercedes service/repair facility in the Dallas/Fort Worth area? Thanks in advance,

I use standard 15W40 year round and have had no problems starting, even at ~zero degrees as far north as Nebraska. This is with good glow plugs and battery. (I've had glow plugs wear out and fail to start but never an issue with oil weight.)
I'm not sure about mechanics in the "northern" area of the metromess, but there a several good ones in Ft. Worth. Probably the best, and most well known, is Auto Heinz on Camp Bowie Boulevard. A spotless garage, specializing in only MB's and BMW's, and very knowledgable and helpful.

Fort Worth might be a little far if you're in Irving. I would highly recommended Louden Motorcars in Dallas, a first-rate indie shop I went to when we lived in Flower Mound.
http://www.loudenmotorcars.com/ Edit: just noticed that you live in Keller. From your home, you're probably have to drive a ways no matter where you take it. Maybe some folks who live in the mid-cities (Bedford, Hurst, Colleyville) will chime in with recommendations. If I still lived in TX, I would use exactly what I use now: Mobil 1 5w40 synthetic. It can get very cold in Dallas.

I'm about 100 miles from Dallas and Chevron Delo 15W40 has taken all my MB's to very high mileage.

Most any weight of routine oil and filter changing, will take an MB to very high mileage.

Now listen, because I will NOT take any discussion on this. As mentioned above, use Don Boland in NRH/Colleyville area. Solid, professional, detailed and above all honest. Try him once, it is all it will take. GREAT DFW area Indy. Promise!
