The w126 one was aluminum? Why? Sounds extremely weak compared to steel.

it was an option from the dealer. few ordered it. I have one!

the aluminum plate I have is from a suburban, not a 126. I don't think the 126 was available with a plate. not sure on that though.
proper thickness aluminum would be strong enough to avert a damaged pan unless you were absolutely flying! and it's lighter than steel for fuel economy.

I have seen a few 126s with them in the yards.

Also interested.

you saw more than one skid plate equipped 126 in a yard and you LEFT IT THERE???
or are you talking about the plastic panels?
why get a mockup from me if you have access to OE in a yard price environment?

I have seen all sorts of things in the yards that would boggle people's minds, at the time I had no interest. Who knows why. I was probably out to get something else and had no time or on my way out.

It was on a grey market 500sel with F/R SLS and four place seating. This has been years ago.

Yes, the metal lower oil pan skid plate.

I'd be interested in a mild steel one, but wouldn't be able to afford one

I'd really like to see picture of how the skid mounts. I've been meaning to fabricate something for a while now. I'm on my 4th lower oil pan.

It was really confusing the first time I knocked the pan in. I went out some dirt roads, had a great time, and when I checked my oil, I was up a quart???

What the heck is the other skid plate made of. The thing that doubles as an oil pan. I got a new one and the dang things weighs a lot. Where some painted is chipped it looks to be brass or something.

I would love to get the factory skid plates. Yes, there are two - radiator plate and oil pan plate.

For the W123 anyway.

Yes, I would like to buy a skid plate.

Nobody talks about hitting their radiator. Is that part necessary???

I have an NOS skid plate for a W123 that I still haven't installed. I'm not sure if I will either.
