If you hit something high enough with enough energy to bend the crossmember and damage the radiator, a skidplate probably isn't going to be much help since the event will likely disable the vehicle with or without it.
The oil pan sits significantly lower than any other powertrain part (besides the tires) and has line of sight to road obstacles. The skidplate can protect it from common low-height obstacles like ice and rocks that aren't high enough to disable the vehicle but would otherwise just damage the pan.

Here is mine, I also installed a fumoto drain valve to make oil changes clean and easy.

I don't think the plate is really for protection of the radiator as much as it's a plate to lift the vehicle over really bad objects you might hit. it looks like it's more of a continuation of the oil pan plate.

Id buy one for my w126, stainless would be great. Mild steel would be ok too.

Could you make a metal plate for the w124?

Nobody talks about hitting their radiator. Is that part necessary???
I guess the radiator is necessary if it's water-cooled?

There's a radiator skid plate as well for the W123: who wants a 123 or 126 skid plate?

I'd be interested in an oil pan skid plate too!

I think everyone would want a skid plates if..

you paint the front skid plate with the very large jersey number of our favorite college or NFL middle linebacker with the background in the appropriate team colors. It would be fun bashing rocks, beer kegs, large road kill, live animals (sickos) and mattresses that were temporarily tied down to the roof of a car with one piece of twine by someone who quit middle school before the lecture on aerodynamics.

From the pictures, I can see now how the front skid plate would soften the impact of a large object. The front is like a skid plate, and the oil pan one is a protection plate.

Nothing like hitting a mattress while riding a Suzuki GSX-R while going 75.
NOT FUN!
