87 300d

Hello
I have an 87 300D wagon and the paint around the jacking points is flaking off.I would like to repaint this myself. What color is the paint that goes around this area and where can I find it?Id rather pay someone than the stealership.

Also the headlights dont always come on but the brights always do.
Any procedure i should follow to change out the fuel filters?

welcome to the forum, and you have a rare car to boot. I also have one, and I love it.
you've got to post pictures, and do a search for the thread "how many 87 TD's on the board?" and add your car to the list. only 1000 or so were imported to the us, so yours is among the members rides here, we are trying to keep a tally!
fuel filters are fairly easy to change. just be aware of the difficulties of these cars.
there's no primer pump, so it's best to change them on level ground, or with the nose parked down hill. then change the primary clear filter first, and get the secondary spin on filter next. before you remove the filter from the car, have your new filter filled with diesel, or fuel conditioner of your choice. when you pull the filter bolt, the fuel line should start bleeding fuel, so be ready to swap the new one in there. I like to let the fuel bubble up to the top before I tighten the bolt down. but either way, after it's in, put your foot down on the accelerator, and crank the car until it starts, and be ready for the motor to stumble. once you've made it past the stumble, it should stay running, and you are done!
enjoy!
and don't forget to post pice on here!

for the headlights, I believe there is a relay that controls them. it could also be the fuses in the panel. I'd pull every fuse, and clean all the contacts, then install a new set of copper/brass fuses from fastlane above on the buy parts link. a full set is only a few $$ and your car will thank you with a lack of electrical problems once all the fuses are new.

before you paint the jack points, I'd clean away any rust that's present, and treat the area with por-15. I think the gray is a close match for the rocker panel paint anyway.

Welcome Sarah,
We hope you will find all the help you need in the forum.
John (vstech) is spot on with his suggestions.
87 wagons are nearly as scarce as hens teeth !!
When you get a chance, post some details of roughly where you are located in your signature. Other members could then provide you details of good independent repair shops near you. I am a bit far away to help there
Make sure you change the secondary filter (the big canister one) when the motor is at operating temp, it will make it easier to restart. Always take the car for a run & then check for leaks.

Good luck with your wagon !!!

thanks for all the help.
I think I found the relay and fuse for headlights.

Where can I get the exact match paint for the undercarriage/jacking points?
