1987 190D motor in a Mazda B2000, Drive line interface
This is what is left of the interface between the 190d automatic transmission and the spline of the Mazda driveshaft. It blew apart Thanksgiving night in the rain 10 minutes after purchasing the truck a 4 hour drive away from home!
I am looking for someone to custom make a piece to go between, but I am having a hard time. The drive line shops seem to not know how to adapt the two. From what I can tell, I have the 3 bolt flange at the rear of the MB tranny that needs to get to the spline of the Mazda drive shaft. There is about 8 inches between the two. Any ideas how this can be done? Or does anyone know the specs on the that transmissions flange? I have a feeling it was attached to a flex disc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Please fire back with any questions!

The best way to do this is the way Mercedes did it- with a short driveshaft supported by a hanger bearing. The male end of your Mazda shaft will plug into that.
If that short shaft was simply supported by the flex disc, that is a recipe for disaster, as you unfortunately found out. |

Place that used to be around here before the owner retired would build and balance any drive shaft you want.

That is some UGLY welding ! No wonder it broke.
You need to find a good driveshaft shop...but you already know that. Your nearest large city should have a competent shop. I live in rural NW TN and have an awesome racing driveshaft shop close by called Wiles. They build things like aluminum shafts etc. Custom drive shafts should be precision welded and balanced. Hope you get it worked out and then show us the truck.

driveshafts should not be hacked by a muffler shop, or a home stick welder...

Thanks for the input so far. I've talked with a couple of shops in the Chicago area. It seems that they want to see the (immobile) truck to let me know if they can make a shaft. I am of the belief that of course it can be done. If it was in my driveway I would think I could take measurements and specs and get a shop to make me a drive shaft.
Can anyone recommend a shop in the Chicago area that might be willing to help?

I think in fairness the shop will need to see the truck to give you an intelligent answer. Asking for something like this off some supplied specs and details is a stretch.
