Casper has a 5spd. manual (as opposed to the 5spd auto it came with).
or You put a manual shift knob and boot on your auto shift lever.

Works pretty well. 5th gear is not quite tall enough so it runs at about 2800 rpms at 70mph. May swap rear end in the future. Nice around town, though.
Before anyone asks, don't try this conversion. Rebuild your burned up 722.600 and save a lot of misery. This was a beater of a car that I figured "what the hell, all the parts are here, let's try".

1985 190D 2.2 was the donor for most of the parts. Having done it, wish I'd used a 2.3 gasser tranny with the taller overdrive. Easy enough swap if one comes along, however.
Pedals were straight forward (some minor tweaking for the brake light switch), shifter is a straight bolt in, tranny bolts right in and the driveshaft had to be welded up from 2 automatic donors. All that was easy enough(relatively), but the one thing that keeps this unrealistic for all but the insane is the flywheel. The automatic uses six cast "tabs" as pick up points for the crank sensor, which these beasts need to run. The manual flywheel has none and is a lot thinner. In a fit of mad genius or lunacy (that fine line we all walk), member Crashone and I cut a very unlucky Craftsman screwdriver into 6 equal lengths. Lots of measuring later, we welded those little suckers to the manual flywheel as pick-up tabs. Damned if it didn't work!! Lots of wiring to work out (back up lights, cruise), and some that will never be resolved such as the "Check Engine Electronics" (Dude, where is my tranny?) light that has to be cleared each time it is started. So far, so good, but not for the faint of heart or sane. Klaus
