87 300D Running Lights Staying on

We have a 87 300D that all four running lights came on by themselves while parked last night and won't go off. So far we've swapped in a different N7 exterior lamp failure monitor. This made no difference. Any thoughts?

I'l look at the headlamp switch. Plastic bits hold the contacts open, if those wore out they wouldn't be able to hold the contacts apart anymore and they would close.

This is why you sometimes see a burning Benz turn its headlights on

I was thinking this would be the next item to check. Just didn't want to overlook something with easier access.

I recommend turning them off.

Left right or both?

it's not difficult to remove the headlight switch.
just pull hard on the knob, and take out the trim. unscrew the big nut, and it comes right out.
I've got one from a 93 if ya needs it.

On the W124 and gen2 W126 the switch just plugs in, you don't have to undo all the individual wires.
