Okay- so I'm gonna buy a mityvac- I have the fluid evacuation big unit- but after looking at the web site I still don't know what unit to buy for vacuum issue resolution on my cars/transmission. Any suggestions?
I did talk with Steve B today, and I'm closer to a better shifting tranny already- but not completely there yet.

an update on my 2-3 trans. flare that started this thread.

Found the VCV was totally unadjusted so vac. to trans modulator was never being diminished even a WOT. Simple adjustment, pull off the cap on the VCV and turn the nut CCW. Set it so vac to modulator was about 15" at light throttle. and close to zero at WOT. Also dialed in modulator about 1/2 a turn CW (didn't bother connecting any pressure gauge to the trans.....thought I would do this adjust by test drive feel). Also, found that my modulator won't hold vac so have a new one on order.

End result being that the flare largely went away (mostly I suspect because of the VCV adjustment) and all shifts were much crisper. But, it would still occasionally do a light flare when warm (no cold, not hot). Yesterday I did the most intensive part of this job....I checked the trans. fluid. I found it was low and kicked myself in the arse......what a stupid oversight. Added about a quart and haven't seen any flare since. Granted, only 2 days but everything feels different now and I can tell this along with the VCV were probably the only issues. Feels like a new trans.....gives me a nice little kick every gear change, nice and crisp, no slipping at all.

So, my take away from this is if you have trans. slipping/flaring
1.) check you VCV and make sure you are sending the right vac. levels to the trans modulator
2.) check your modulator and line to modulator to make sure the VCV signal is making it to the modulator
3.) dial in the modulator to turn up the pressure a bit if necessary
4.) skip steps 1 thru 3 until you have first checked your trans fluid level as the problem could potentially be as simple as that (these old benz's do seem to mark their territory and over a year I guess it adds up)
