Sloppy shifter

Hey guys the shifter in my 84 300d is really sloppy, so much I have to move and wiggle it all around to get the car to start sometimes, but mainly when I go to put the car in reverse I have to go past reverse to get it to engage and then when I put it back into drive I have to go past it then pull it back into drive... Just curious if there are bushing that wear out I can replace or if there's some sort of adjustment I can make to remedy this... Thanks for yalls help I'm gonna try to limit my questions to a few every few days so I don't have a bunch of threads open... Also if Amy of you are local to Greenville SC and are into these wonderful cars let me know I would be glad to pay someone for their time in helping me diagnose the problems I'm having and helping me get the car running the way I know it can!

bushings wear. Cheap and easy to replace.
This covers the W124 but I think is similar on the W123 http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W124ShiftBushings

Thanks for the quick replys, I was hoping someone would say it's something as simple as a bushing... I can't say enough how friendly most everyone I have talked to is on the Mercedes boards I have joined... It's funny my wife always knows what I'm working on when I leave up random car forums on the computer haha
