E300D OM606 idle speed
Hi,
Ive looked up the idle speed adjustment and test on the 124zone website with the factory manual, it says that idling speed should be about 600 revs at idle and A/C, power steering and brake load should not affect it - it would automatically compensate. Im not feeling it compensate, when the A/C compressor kicks on - the engine slows down slightly turning the steering bogs it further, but I dont see the rpm needle drop below 500. Is there a special way to do it, set it with the electric plug disconnected from the pump? or the compensation system is plain lazy |

Assuming you have a 1995 model year, the idle speed is controlled by the Electronic Diesel System [electronic module behind the battery]. I don't know how similar your car is to earlier 124s or to the OM606NA engine in the 1996-97 E300D (W210). The EDS control unit is typically very reliable but you could have a problem with the rack position sensor (mounted on the IP, it tells EDS where the throttle is) or the electro-magnetic actuator (also on the IP, adjusts the idle speed). There should be a multi-position plug ("Resistance Trimming Plug") that you can use to adjust the idle speed. It should be on the secondary fire wall near the brake booster. You can pull it out and plug it in at a different position to see if the idle speed changes.

yes it is the 1995 model year - with OM606 engine but with a mechanical throttle linkage. The manual shows the control module - Im going to build a tester to see what sort of error codes is it generating. its not very mercedes like to have your engine slow down for the A/C
Engine starts up super quick, does not heat up or anything - all gauges and lights operate - but sounds too rattly for an OM606 - (its been quite a while since I heard a 606 anyway) - but I recall that you only hear it quiety ticking An addition if it may help in diagnosing is that when I turn the key to start in the morning - it takes 1 or 2 seconds for the starter to actually start spinning the engine - OVP? |

Ive come back from trying to read error codes - I made the little LED tester but it could not give out any codes - no flashes at all, I tested the little setup and all is good..
I connected the red banana plug to pin 16 black to pin 1 (negative) and the third to pin 4 as the manual says - pushed button for 2 seconds nothing, 4 seconds nothing - it will show any sort of code - (I have 12.6v at pin 4 - manual said I should see 6-12V) - someone has any experience on this |
