Idle speed adjustment on 617.912 engine
'79 300CD 617.912 non-turbo. 148K
Pardon my ignorance on this. I had my fuel injectors rebuilt and it made quite a nice difference in starting and performance but now I find the car idling at a speed which appears to be too fast. There is no tach on the car but I have ordered one of those infrared units. Just how do I adjust the idle speed and at what RPMs should I set idle? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I just did it on my 617.952. Look down between IP and block for a round slotted screw shaft pointing up at you. Loosen the 13 mm locknut on it with a crowsfoot wrench and adjust idle in the range of 650-750 rpm.

I use a 14mm Crows Foot on an 3/8 Extension to loosen and tighten the Idle Screw Nut.
If it is still there the Idle Speed is listed on the Emission Sticker on top of the upper Cross Member that is in front of the Radiator. Also on the sticker is your Valve Clearances and some timing information.

For my 84 300D the sticker has 750 plus or minus 50 rpm for the Idle Speed.
