Slow 0-60

Like the title says I have a pretty slow 0-60 in my 81 300sd turbo.. 21 seconds..

What would you do to it? Valve adjustment tommorrow? What needs to be cleaned out?

Is there a fuel pump I can turn up? Transmition adjustment?

I have the ALDA removed!

Thanks
Andrew

Have you bypassed the switchover/over boost protection valve on the firewall (if you vehicle has one). They get clogged and restrict boost. My 1987 300TD was a 22 second 0-60 until I did that.

Yes, and yes. As far as transmission goes, just make sure it actually shifts from 1-4 as designed - and yes, it is supposed to start out in 1st, despite what some say here. Also, I would replace primary and secondary fuel filters and check the air filter. If she still no go, look at the tank screen for restriction. Did this suddenly come about? My 85SD has the ALDA removed, waste gate adjusted and boosting at 13psi. Maaaannn what a difference that made! You may want to check boost. I bought a sunpro gauge at Advance for 25-30 bucks. I was surprised to find out it only boosted 8 psi starting out. I think your car may have a KKK K26 turbo, so if it is, you can adjust the waste gate. Do the filtration items above first, in addition to valve adjustment, though.

All of the filters have been recently replaced, doing the valve adjustment when I wake up in the morning.. What did you do to your waste gate? Should I remove my EGR?

I have a good friend that prolly has a boost gauge I will have to see if I can meet up with him this weekend!

Thanks!
Andrew

If it is not stuck open, simply put a BB in the rubber connection - simple emissions inspection deletion. Otherwise, if it is stuck, remove it. Also do the same on the ARV on the front of the turbo (do a search for pics). Loosen the 10mm crowd nut on the waste gate and turn the allen-headed screw in 3-4 turns -CW- checking boost under full load while driving. Be careful and do not burn your wrist like I did! It takes 5-6 attempts before locking down the crowd nut.

EGR's have a habit of leaking & clagging up the inlet manifold. If you can, put a blank under it.

Andrew,
As a young new driver, maybe its best that you dont have too much of a rocket, we dont want you loosing control & hurting the car !!

The last time I said that to some one your age, I got told to "go & get S##FFED !!"

always inspect the full travel of the throttle linkage. if your go pedal is on the floor, your IP lever should be against the stop.

I'd remove the EGR entirely, I did it for my 300SD and it made a pretty nice difference, it can help eliminate vacuum leaks too. I'll take a pic later today if I remember. I would avoid the "just put a BB in the line" idea unless your state has hellish emissions requirements. You will need a coin shaped gasket and blocking device. I just used one of the collars off the crinkled aluminium tube from the EGR system and a 5 Kroner coin (sweedish.) Odds are if you have a coin jar with some foriegn currency in it you'll find something that will fit.

81 doesn`t have the ARV. like Layback40 said, the EGR clogs up the inlet port of the manifold. every EGR I pulled off at PNP had the manifold port plugged tight. so not working anyway. to BB or not to BB, your choice

I would check emissions laws with you being in Cali. Is it just a visual? Are you completely exempt(being a diesel)
