Does anybody know what this is?

I found this inside my MB toolkit, have never seen before.
Anyone? |
For tire changes. Screw it into the wheel drum and it helps hold and align the wheel so you can get the other lug nuts started.
|
Wow. A new one. Nice. Mine does not look nearly as good.
|
A guess would be a wheel locator.
I had a regular bolt modified by having the hex head rounded off. I find this quite helpful when having to change tires, even here in the driveway. Simply screw that into a lug hole on the hub, mount the wheel, takes seconds versus minutes. Ever changed a tire on the side of the interstate in the dark? |
Sweet!! thanks.

Kent Bergma's video on this tool is comical. Score for having an original one!
|
in ALL the car's I've bought NONE of them have had that tool in the bag.
I've made a few, and I pilfered one from my mom's c320 wagon... prior to trade-in... very nice for you to have an original! |
Nice....none of my cars have one either. I'd not mind having one of those! :D I've gotten pretty good at it without though. And in the dark....flashlight.

I just put the wheel on, stick a lug in the hole and rotate the wheel until it catches... but it's much quicker with the right tool! |
I think both of mine still have them in the spare tire. IIRC there is a foam insert in a lug hole and the tool thingy is hanging down. Now I am curious so I will have to look.
|
Wow! I've always wondered what that was also. I still have both the originals also.
|
No originals here, but my dad made some things that will serve the purpose on the lathe.
Front ones aren't too bad but without them, it takes me 5 minutes or more sometimes to hang rear wheels on these things. Just can't get them lined up and then you go to rotate and it rotates the rotor with it. Not enough hands to hold the weight of a tire with two and still insert lug bolts with the third. |
I have a few of them, every once in a while I come across one in PNP. they really do make it easier to mount the wheels.
Most of the time I can`t find the dang thing when I need it. Charlie |
"god is in the details" really fit this ingenious thing :-)
