Stickshift bushings for '85 190D
 

Hi all,
Cannot get the car in reverse or 5th. 3rd is also starting to act up.
I have done some reading and the shifter linkage bushings seem to be the most likely cuprit.
Does that make sense? Is that a job I can do? We just got the car and I haven't worked on it before.

I need to find the correct bushings, does anyone have a way of finding the part numbers? Or can I perhaps buy a whole kit with parts that should be replaced when I'm in there anyway?

On a manual transmission shift linkage there are bushings on each end of the shift rod that can wear & cause that issue.

Also where the shift rod is connected to the shift fork, the bold can work loose & cause that as well.

The trans end bushings are 000-992-10-10 ($3.75) & the shifter end bushings are 210-992-00-10 ($2.50) each.

On that shifter also, there are two rubber bushings under the stick handle that would be 4th to check after the bolts and shifter linkage bushings underneath the car. These can also have an impact on shift quality and such.

You can't buy them individually, but you can get a shifter rebuild kit that includes them and some other wear parts for the shifter itself-

I agree with both of the previous posters - those are some logical first places to look.

Earlier this year, I replaced the bushings M.B.DOC mentioned (the 210 992 00 10); they are relatively easy to change out so I don't think you'll have any trouble with that job.

Next on my list is the repair kit dropnosky suggested (my car goes into all gears OK, but it's hard to move the shifter from the 1-2 position over to the 3-4 position; you have to get it in just the right spot).

ok, fixed two broken bushings underneith and have the shifter kit on order at the stealer ($86 plus tax)

If you could let me know how the shifter kit installation works out, I would appreciate it. Any tips/pointers would be very helpful - I plan to do the same repair when the weather improves.
