1984 300TD Wagon EXHAUST UPGRADE?
Just got my hands on a very cheap W123 Turbo Wagon and since I got it so cheap wanted to play around with it alittle bit...... I love the sounds this ole diesel makes but I was wanting to spice it up alittle bit. Has anyone ever played around with different exhausts on these cars? Just wanting to give it alittle different sound and possibly open it up alittle bit.

Search.
This has been discussed quite a bit before. No real gains can be made by modifying the stock exhaust on any OM617. Some people have removed the muffler and left the center resonator. Some have straight-piped it all the way. Any attempt you make to mount an aftermarket exhaust on these cars would be laughable. YMMV.

Removing the rear muffler gives a quicker turbo spool up and "better" sound if you ask me.

Do you want it to go better or sound better? The 2 are not the same!!

More power and more power quickly usually means "better"- and you'll get that with the rear muffler removal. The sound is a judgement. I like the sound with the rear muffler removed "better". It sounds like a truck if you ask me, but not a loud truck at all.
